Kia ora Parents and Caregivers.

Our world is certainly facing unprecedented times and it’s been a challenging journey for us as we’ve navigated through the past two weeks. I know there are many families facing difficult situations and our aim is to keep things as normal and routine as possible for our students.

It’s still important to reiterate we are not making decisions in isolation, but taking advice from officials and keeping informed of the latest developments. Please rest assured we would not put our staff or students in danger and every decision we have made has this as a foundation.

You may have noticed other schools have been trialling various online remote learning solutions should the Government decide to close schools. As an established BYOD school, our Google Classrooms platform is already operating efficiently, and we are confident we’re set and ready to go if the call is made. This means we are able to currently continue classes without disruption.

I want to personally thank our parent community for journeying with us in a calm and rational fashion. The rumour mill has been working overtime, and separating fact from fiction has been one of our key priorities. For accurate, up-to-date information, you may find helpful.

Despite the ever-changing landscape, this newsletter has stories on some of the great things still happening at our school, along with some updates on key events.

The health and safety of our school community is paramount, so if your daughter is unwell please keep her home from school  – remembering to email and notifying her Form Teacher.

You will find more updates on Covid-19 under “Important Things to Note” in this newsletter – including our Parent Teacher interviews and what do to if you, as parents, have recently returned from overseas.

I’m sure I will be in touch again shortly with any new updates, but in the meantime have a relaxing week end and thank you again for being a valued part of our Westlake community.
